Winds of Freedom

Winds of Freedom: Augmented Reality Intervention at Dragão do Mar Center - Fortaleza, CE.

Winds of Freedom is an augmented reality experience developed for public space, proposing a reflection on memory, resistance, and the legacy of the abolitionist movement in Ceará. The intervention takes place at the Dragão do Mar Center of Art and Culture, a site that bears the name of one of the greatest symbols of the struggle for freedom in the state.

Inspired by networks of popular mobilization and by key historical figures of abolition, the experience uses digital layers to give visibility to subjects and narratives that shape the Black and jangadeiro identity of Ceará. Through WebAR technology (Augmented Reality accessible via browser), visitors are invited to interact with virtual monuments and digital models, accessing visual and affective content directly from their own mobile devices, with no need for apps.

The activation occurs through an interactive urban furniture installation located within the cultural center, serving as a physical anchor for the digital experiences. The project aims to integrate interaction design, heritage education, and history, fostering a deep connection between the built environment and the memories of freedom that sustain Ceará’s cultural heritage.
